I'm inspired ...

I love blogging. I love the blogging community and the people I have met because of it. I love that I *guess* I inspire people and that I can be inspired by other people. It really is just an amazing thing.

What does this really have to do with anything? Not much, but years back, I had an acquaintance, Andrea, through softball. Actually, we pretty much only ever knew who the other was and had never really talked. Fast forward to late 2008, as we were in the middle of completing our adoption of Nika, Andrea contacted me to tell me she had come upon our blog and how much she respected what Kyle and I were doing. I can't remember exactly what she even said in our conversations, but I could tell she was a person unattached to the special needs community that understood exactly why we would want to adopt Nika ... she just got it. And I loved that.

Well today I received this email from Andrea ...
Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to get involved! This Saturday I'm volunteering for the first time for a Special Olympics bowling event in our area. Hopefully this will be the start of more fun events and opportunities to get involved locally.

How cool is that? She is getting involved in Special Olympics ... something that Kyle and I admittedly have not even done, with the exception of the Little Athletes program. So now I've been inspired by someone that I inspired. Funny how that works, huh?

  2. That is awesome! Jared and I have both volunteered with Special Olympics over the years in the Madison area and it is SO amazing and wonderful to see these kids and adults give it everything they have and are so happy for each other for finishing. We haven't volunteer since Grace was born but I would love to get involved again this summer with the kids helping too. My grandma was a special ed teacher and we were always taught that you respect people with special needs (physically and mentally) because they are some of the most special people we will ever meet and it has proven true. I would love to someday meet your family- I love Payton & Nika's smiles and Mason seems like such a wonderful big brother (he reminds me of Jack). You and Kyle are doing a wonderful thing giving Nika a chance at a wonderful life that she wouldn't have had in Russia and Payton and Mason are blessed to know how special each one of them are. Good Job!
