Sick. Sick. And pretty much sick.

Oi ... what a week.

Monday started off with Payton refusing to walk. After running around barefoot in the nice weather all last weekend, she injured her left foot. I didn't see any splinters, so I figured she must have bruised it. She was not screeching in pain {as if it was broken} ... she would just sit and whimper until I carried her.

So no school on Monday for Payton ... I mean, she wouldn't walk!

By Tuesday ... the snot, cough and fever had rolled into town. Payton had all three ... Nika just had snot.

So no school on Tuesday for Payton either.

These yuckies lasted all week, with Nika's progressively getting worse and with wheezing coming to town to visit Payton.

So no school for Payton on Thursday or Friday either. Although if I were a really good mom, I would have known that Friday was a teacher in-service day and I wouldn't have shown up in the carpool lane to drop off Mason, all the while wondering where everyone else was.

I took Payton to the doctor on Friday to make sure it wasn't anything more than a virus ... and I wanted them to take a look at her foot. Although she began limping on it by late Monday, she was still favoring it by Friday. They agree that she probably just bruised it and to give her motrin to reduce swelling for healing. If that doesn't work within a couple days, then I will be asking fr xrays. They also swabbed her for strep, which was negative.

Last night Nika went downhill fast. In addition to her snot, she is now barking like a seal. My poor baby. No fever though ... yet. Can you say croup?

So late this afternoon, Payton was laying on me. I could tell something was wrong, as she had just woke up from her nap and she was so lethargic. A couple minutes later ... vomit everywhere.

Seriously.

And on top of all of this I am also barking like a seal.

Lovely.

Before bed, I flushed out the girls' noses, dosed them up on cold medicine and layered the Vicks on their chests. Mmm ... I love Vicks. I put some on my own chest too. Reminds me of my childhood. You think it matters if my Vicks expired like ... say, five years ago? Haha.

  1. Oh man, I'm sorry everyone is feeling like crap! Then add the mama feeling like crap and it is all just b.a.d! As for the foot: When Angela was 4 (?) she jumped off a bottom step in our back yard. So what's that, like 8 inches or something? When she landed she said "ouch", bent down and touched her foot, stood up and kept going. A few times during the day she would repeat the "ouch" routine, but otherwise she never favored it. The next day she quit walking, and did that for 2 or 3 day until we happened to have an appointment with the developmental ped. that had been scheduled MONTHS before. There was a small amount of bruising, but nothing extraordinary. It also just so happened her orthopedic specialist was in that day (same clinic) so she had him look at it. He, too thought it was bruised, but given her high pain threshold, he decided to xray it. The xray wasn't too remarkable, but he decided given her symptoms he was going to cast it anyway. 6 weeks in the cast and we went back. He did another xray and sure enough, there was new bone growth! Two small bones on the top of her foot HAD been broken, but too small to show up on the xray. So, that's our weird foot story! LOL Now I never trust her if she falls hard enough that she COULD have hurt something. Dean is always like "She's up and moving, she's FINE!" But I know better. LOL

  2. Sorry to hear about your sicky week! Can you catch colds through blogging - cause I've got a mask around here somewhere! (he he he)

Actually, Aidan's kinda pre-croupy right now too. Hoping it doesn't last. And I hope next week is better for you guys!

  3. Oh no! We had croup here too a couple of days ago. You love Vicks too? I put it on my lips. I think of my mom every time I use it because it reminds me of my childhood too. Do you think we're long lost twins?

  6. I've even heard putting vicks on the bottoms of their feet helps.

  7. I 2nd the vicks on the feet thing too. Slather it on before bed, then put on a pair of socks, and it seems to just warm up your whole body.

Sorry everyone is sick. Strep throat is going around majorly here. SO many people are sick, not sure what's going on.

I hope Payton's food is ok too.

  10. I feel for you, we are having a sicky week here, too. Right now Kayla is hacking away in her crib and Laurie is passed out in her bed after throwing up her breakfast. Sigh. Of course, I volunteered to work the PTA Book Fair all week, so I hope they are better by tomorrow!

  12. Oh man. You guys are having a rough time. Um.. go for the xray. It's no skin on their backs to shoot 2 pics of that foot. Tell them you are a paranoid mama.

  13. Oh my!! Yucky week!!!!! Another way of saying that . . . . LONG WEEK!!! :(

Vicks! Isn't Vicks always a outdated?? LOL Seems like it sits around forever! I don't share your fondess, however. Yes, I got Vicks as a kid - but I didn't like it! I still don't. When I have a cold my husband always tells me to dab a little Vicks under my nose. Ummm, NO! No thanks! He's the one that layers the Vicks on Aleena. I don't even like to touch it! HOWEVER, that being said, I MIGHT try it on Aleena's feet the next time - to me, that somehow sounds better than all over your chest and having your jammies stick to it! YUCK!!!!!!

Here's hoping this week gets better and better!!! Come on SPRING!!!!

  17. Hope all of you get to feeling better. Seems like when one gets sick it goes through the entire house in no time flat. Regarding Vicks- still love it to this day. Sometimes I just like to open it and sniff it (I know funny, but true) Mine expired 3 years ago, lol
