New Year's Eve Party

What fun is a New Year's Eve party with power, right? Clearly that is the view point of our power company. Around 4:30 p.m. yesterday, as I continued to get stuff ready for our party and just as the sun was going down, the power went out. I patiently waited a couple minutes, and then several minutes, and then hours ... and it still hadn't come back on. Grr. We lit the house with 30-40 candles and turned on our gas fireplace for heat ... we were expecting guests and I was sort of panicking!

Around 7 p.m., our guests started showing up and we still had no power. The darkness and candles made for a nice atmosphere, but really ... I needed my ovens. At 7:45 p.m., we finally got our power back ... cheers all around!
Taniya and her many drinks ... sippy cups, beer, Hurricane, champagne ... thirsty girl! LOL
Ummm ... no comment! Okay, comment ... this was my version of guitar hero! LOL
Maureen the double fister ....Meanwhile, the kids were downstairs causing havoc ... 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ... Happy New Year!
I made these skewers with grapes for our champagne ... it is a Spanish tradition and brings good luck. No we are not Spanish, but I liked the tradition ... and I wanted good luck. Each skewer is supposed to have 12 grapes ... one grape for each month of the upcoming year. But ... my grapes were too big, so we each only got about 8 grapes or so. That means we'll have good luck through about August and after that we're in trouble. Hopefully we'll find more luck along the way!

  2. Love the grape tradition - would it count if you cut them in half? But then maybe you'd have good luck for half a month, and the rest would go to pot. Oh, how 'bout 2 skewers in each glass for good measure? Or two glasses each! Oh, the possibilities...

  3. we do the grapes too , but you have to make a wish while you eat a grape, haha that makes it harder ;)

    and there are also tons of other traditions like wearing red underwear (for love), yellow under ware (for money), going out of the house with luggage (for travel)

    everything in midnite, so you could wear red bra, yellow panties, eat grapes while you run with luggage in front of you house haha

    Happy New Year! Looks like you had a fun party! Found your blog through DownSyn (I am a bit of a lurker there from time to time!) Just wanted to congratulate you on your beautiful addition to your family... my husband and I have considered adoption as well (we have Jordyn, age 14, Rylee, age 5 with DS, and Carter, age 20 mo.) I often look at the Reece's Rainbow website and wonder if/when the time is right for our family! The pictures of all of those kids just make me want them all!
