Nika's Sleep Study

My least favorite thing to do. Sleep studies.

Payton has had two sleep studies done so far and neither was a fun experience. She fought tooth and nail. Surprised? LOL.

Nika had her first sleep study last night and she did very well. She let them put all the wires on and she hardly messed with them at all.

What are all these wires?

By the time they got us settled in our room and got her all hooked up, it was past 10pm. It wasn't long until Nika was fast asleep ...

Nika has notoriously dry skin. We lube her up several times a day and her skin just sucks it up. This morning, as the sleep lab tech removed the tape from Nika's cheeks, it took some of the skin off. Grr.

Here is my sleeping beauty on the way home ...

I am really optimistic that Nika does not have sleep apnea. She is a pretty sound sleeper, however we wanted to have the sleep study done since sleep apnea is common in kids with Down syndrome.

  1. She was a real trooper about the sleep study. E cried herself to sleep and woke up crying about every thirty minutes all night long.

Ouchy on the babies cheeks. Kisses from E.

  2. Aw, what a sweet little girl!!

Poor little cheeks...the same thing happened to Dylan when his feeding tube was removed after his OHS. Sensitive little ones.

  3. Austin's had two. One, they sent us home... he just ripped all the wires out. The second one was in a hospital.. we doped him up with some type of sedative which he thought was HILARIOUS... he was a sloppy drunk. lol

Hope all is well with the sleep study results!

  5. Her poor cheeks :( Glad she did so well, praying for no apnea for her!

  6. Sounds like it went well, despite the cheeks. We've only done a short study with Sophie and that was to check on seizure activity (which was negative). Hope you're all done.

  7. Glad all went well...she is such a sweet little girl. What age is this sleep study recommended? I haven't even thought of doing this yet? Brayden has never required oxygen, or had any breathing difficulties, but does that even matter?

  8. Ooh, I felt a twinge of nausea there thinking about the tape ripping her beautiful, delicate skin! Poor little thing. Glad she slept well for the study, though. When will you get the results?

  12. Oh what a little dear!!!! Were you able to get some sleep this time around? Aleena sounds more like Payton than Nika! She didn't do well with her sleep study, either. Ugh! It's a nightmare! . . . But not this time!!! :) Except the poor baby's cheeks. :(

  13. Awww, poor Nika!! Ella has the dry skin too, the only thing that works for her is after she falls asleep I slather her face with Aquaphor, when she wakes in the AM her skin is good as new! (the sheets are a mess and her hair looks greasy but whatever : )

So, the sleep apnea thing... Ella is a horrible sleeper I have often wondered if she has apnea. BUT I have never had her tested because I know that she would NEVER tolerate wearing a mask at night so what's the point? Or is there a point? How do you treat Payton's?

  14. So glad you had a good sleep study experience:) Joshua was the same as Nika, surprisingly cooperative! He sleeps like a rock also but was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea, so it's good your getting her checked out.

  16. Uggg.... we've had a few sleep study experiences ourselves! I'm amazed they can't come up with something less torture-filled! (For the kids AND the parents who have to help!) Glad it's over and done with for you guys! Hope the results are good!

  17. As if we didn't need another reason to know that she is an absolute angel! I would rather pull my teeth out than go through sleep studies!
