The child is solid as a rock. She isn't fat ... per se ... just solid. People often times go to pick her up and they just about put their backs out, because they don't expect her to weigh as much as she does. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, given how big her brother is ... and I guess I should be happy since kids with Down syndrome tend to be on the smaller side.
Today I took Payton to Target to get her more clothes for school, because nothing we have seems to be fitting her. Even some of her 4T stuff that we just bought ... it is ready to be handed down to Nika, so she can wear it in like 2011. Ha.
So there I am, standing in the middle of the big girls section, trying size small on her ... that is like a size 6! Seriously. I was really trying hard to fit her in the x-small, but I'm afraid that once it is washed, it will no longer fit. It was quite depressing, actually ... and I sat there and had my pity party.
No matter what, these stubby little fingers are still my favorite!
She's such a cutie! Don't worry about her size...My middle boy was chunk for a long time...now he's as skinny as a rail! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteUGh! I am SO THERE!!!! Some pictures you can't really tell (like in the recent glamour shots where she's standing with her hands on her hips) but it's the angle that makes her look slim. Really, she has a total buddah belly because she has NO muscle tone in her belly at all! With typical kids, particularly girls, they often go through a slighly pudgy stage right before they start getting their period, then they slim down again. And boys..ALL my boys were kind of chucky right at 12 years old, then slimmed way down as they went through puberty. But, for girls with DS, they put on that pre-puberty weight and IT STAYS! It really depresses me. And, as far as clothes...omg...they drive me crazy! Now we're at the point that Angela wears a size Jr. girls 11, but we have to have 12-14 inches taken off the length, and darts put in the back to eliminate the butt gap! This is driving me crazy, really. BUT, I have also found that petite women's size 8 short fit Angela PERFECTLY in length, AND the waist! Then I have a friend of mine do embelishments on them so they don't look like women's jeans. LOL Angela didn't start putting on weight until she was 9, when we added a medication that causes weight gain AND she started puberty. She hasn't gotten her period yet, so I'm hoping our DS specialist is WRONG when she says most girls with DS don't usually loose the pre-puberty weight. I have found she's right in that our kids hit a certain age and then they suddenly become couch potatoes! I really have to WORK to keep Angela active. Swimming is the best physical activity for her, since her strokes make her more "challenged" on land!
ReplyDeleteI know all too well how hard it is, to dress a little girl that is a size bigger than her age. You did really well, not easy as so many little girls clothes aren’t appropriate for little girls.
ReplyDeleteMy DD had really slimmed down around 6 to 9yrs, then she was Dx with Rheumatoid arthritis, the Dx has changed many times, but the pain she has never goes. She stopped being about to do the things she loved like swim squad training 5nights a week and club, amongst other things.
It’s not easy, it broke my heart for her when I took some picks a few days ago for her.
She didn’t’ have to say any thing I knew she was concerned with her weight.
How tall is Nika? She is the same weight as Aden. I worry so much about Aden’s weight, he eats none stop. Oh the guilt, it’s terrible.
She is just soooo beautiful. I am in the same boat as you too. Kaia is a little on the husky side too. She is not fat or chubby at all, but she is solid that's for sure. She's got height to go with it so that's a good thing. But I really do stress about what she eats (and doesn't eat). I don't want her to have weight issues when she's older, mostly because of the health issues that go along with it.
ReplyDeletewell she definitely does not look husky and you put it. ;) i worry the same thing about henry but as long as they aren't weighing more than they should and are still in a proper range i don't worry about it. if he startes getting too big than we'll have to change things around.
ReplyDeletesome kids are just more solid!
She is gorgeous and looks totally fine to me! I agree she's probably solid! Addy will be 3 on the 18th and she's 19lbs, she's not even on the chart! I am hoping her new formula will bulk her up, so we all go through these worries of some sorts with our kids! Payton is PERFECT!
ReplyDeleteI hope my delivery was nicer than that!! ROFLOL!!! I think Payton is perfect the way she is and one of the cutest little girls on the planet!! I miss you guys like crazy!!!
ReplyDelete(((Hugs))) mom!! She's beautiful just the way she is!! :)
ReplyDeleteNo worries! Blessed that is what you are. She is precious! Dressed to a T I might add!
ReplyDeletewell, she is beautiful, no matter what size she is, =)
ReplyDeleteevery time i see your girls, makes me wanna have a girl so badly!!!
Well... I have always been solid... ever since I was little. My mom could grab my brother and I by the arm to help us up the stairs when we were little (he is almost 2 years older than me) and she said she could tell who she had without looking because I was always so solid. I've played competitive sports, am able to re arrange furniture on my own and open my own pickle jars too... being "husky" has it's perks :) I do remember being mortified in about grade 4 when my mom shopped from the "pretty plus" section in the Sears catalog for me :( I think your daughter is beautiful and us husky girls need to stick together!!!
ReplyDeletemy Noah is pretty solid as well. I dont worry about it cause he gets lots of exercise, its just the buddah belly but it is not always big. Just some times. Noah will not fit into some things and then a few months later fits into them. She is one beautiful girl!
ReplyDeleteYou know, when Aleena was 3, my ped told me that they look for kids to be around 40 lbs when they turn 4 years old. Payton is ONLY 3 months away from her 4th birthday. I don't think that is so bad! How does she compare to her TYPICAL peers?
ReplyDeleteAleena was 39 lbs at her 4 yr-old check up. She's always been solid, too! Aleena fits in very well in her kindergarten class - quite average in height and weight - not petite like so many kids with Ds. And, I think Payton is going to be like that, too! No worries. :)
We're totally in the same boat. Samantha wears sz. 4 bottoms (but can get away with 3s, too) and 5s or 6s in shirts. I'm not sure how much she weighs right now, though, but I, too, always think about how that extra chromosome will affect her as she grows and hope that she can somehow find some latent athleticism (courtesy of her father's genes, not mine!) and stay somewhat slim. We'll see...
ReplyDeleteWe are right there with you too. Savanna turned 4 in Sept and weighs 39 pounds. She is wearing a size 6 in pants and some tops. She is wearing about the same size that her sister who is seven is wearing. Look in the bright side, atleast they are healthy girls.
