Time stood still. But our minds raced.

It was a little after 1 a.m. and we were sound asleep. The kids were all sleeping in their own beds for once ... and Kyle and I in our bed, located right above our two-car garage.

Until we awoke to the sound of one of our garage doors opening.

The loud, unmistakable sound of one of our garage doors. Opening in the middle of the night while we all slept soundly in our bed.

Time stood still. But our minds raced.

Kyle and I both deliriously jumped out of bed ... and said something to the effect of, "What the $%&#?!"

We panicked. Kyle recalls trying to find a pair of pants to put on ... even though he was already wearing a pair of pajama bottoms. Me? I just took off running downstairs after Kyle in my wife beater and underwear.

Meanwhile, the sound of the garage door opening and shutting continued. It was not just opened ... it was opened and closed and opened and closed and ...

Time stood still. But our minds raced.

Kyle ran into our mud room and locked the door that leads to the garage. He then ran out the front door. I thought, what in the hell is he doing?! What if someone is out there?!

I ran into the kitchen ... desperate to find one of our cell phones that had been set down Lord knows where. I turned on every light that I ran past, feeling somewhat confident that nobody had been in the main area of our house since our dog was not barking -- she is crated in that area at night.

Time stood still. But our minds raced.

911. What is your emergency?

As I explained to the dispatcher that our garage door was opening and shutting, I ran to the front door to see what Kyle was doing. He was standing in our driveway ... in a stance that was similar to a basketball player guarding his opponent as he dribbles down the court. The weird thing about watching our garage door go up and down, was that the light attached to the garage door opener was not turning on like it would when in use. Creepy.

Who's in there?!

Get out of the garage!

Who's in there?!

Kyle yelled to me, "Go get me a bat!"

I was thinking ... hell no am I going to find a bat -- I'm going into the kitchen to get the biggest butcher knife we have!

Time stood still. But our minds raced.

I was still on the phone with dispatch as we stood off to the side of our driveway as our garage door continued to go up and down -- just waiting to see someone go running out.

Just as a police cruiser came flying down our street, the garage door stopped -- half way open.

I ran upstairs to get some clothes on, only to find that Payton had woke up. I got dressed, grabbed her and ran outside to find that there were now about five police cruisers outside our home.

During that time, I felt conflicted about leaving Mason and Addison upstairs sleeping. Were they safe? What if there was someone in our house that had snuck upstairs?

Time stood still. But our minds raced.

The police searched our garage. They searched my car, which was parked in the garage. They searched our house -- nothing. Nothing to be found, no indication of what happened.

What in the heck?!

We were completely flustered. The police arrived at our home prepared for a breaking and entering. But there was nothing.

Why was our garage door opening and closing? What caused it to happen?!

No, none of our neighbors have door openers that open our doors. It has never happened before and quite honestly, it was not gonna happen at 1 a.m. in the morning. And even if that had been the case, were they really sitting there hitting the button over and over ... causing our door to open and close and open and close and ... ? No.

Some people that know us well are convinced that our ghost -- click here and here to read more about that -- has made his or her presence known. Some people -- or maybe just me -- try to write it off as a short in a wire.

Really? One too many things have happened here ... yikes. In Kyle's words ... I am so done with this house!

Needless to say, we were wired after this happened. Hello 2 a.m.! As we laid in bed, trying to go back to sleep ... I heard a click. I looked up and realized that our cable box had just turned on. I knew for a fact that it had not been on, because it is exactly where I looked when I awoke earlier to see what time it was. The time was gone ... and the power light was on.

Kyle! Why did our cable box just turn on?!

Seriously -- our house is haunted. Err something.

  1. I had a ghost in my dorm two years ago. a light came crashing down, water turned on, the toilet would flush randomly, and sometimes I felt a bump, like someone was there nudging me. We collectively agreed it was aghost and I used to talk to her, haha.

  2. Creepy! Totally would have been freaked! Our tv in our bedroom used to turn on in the middle of the night (we happen to be right over the garage too) but then my husband fooled with some wires and it doesn't happen anymore. Maybe it is just a short but you have had some crazy things happen!

  5. Wierd. But at night radio signals can travel really far because of some layer in the atmosphere dissapating. My husband works on ships on the great lakes and can get radio from china at night. So maybe a garage opener somewhere in your area got stuck in a purse or inbetween a carseat and was locked onto sending a signal. If it was far away, the radio scanners from the police cars would have blocked it making the garage stop. Then who knows, maybe the batteries died. Same scenario for tvs and the like. However, the rest sounds quite paranormal, and we wish you safety and luck! Stephanie

  6. (creepy whispering) Get out of the house!

Call TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society).

Spooky stuff. Just don't watch the movie Paranormal Activity if you haven't seen it. Just watched it last weekend and am still freaked, nightly.

  7. This is Joyce. Wow, I am sorta spooked for you. I just read all the weird things you have written about. I can see the wires crossing but the orange juice lid - no electronics there - hmmm....I like Jen's idea about calling TAPS. Oh please keep us posted.

  8. Have I told you about our ghost that messes with the TV/cable box in our bedroom? And ONLY that one, no others!!! For the longest time it would ONLY happen when Dean was home, in bed asleep. I would wake him up saying, "LOOK AT THE TV!!! IT'S 1/2 ON!!!"

Yeah, the TV would to to this...like...1/2 state. With a green screen but you could kind of see the tv show through the green.

Again, it ONLY happened when Dean was home and ASLEEP in bed. Then it started happening when he was gone too. I have NEVER walked into the room during the day to find it's happened. No, it only happens when we're in the room!!!

And have you seen the PICTURES of our ghosts??? Yeah, my sister and I got pictures, some from this house, and some from a house my son was renting. THEY ARE CREEPY!

Our hallway light, right outside our bedroom, turns on periodically, but ONLY at night and ONLY when we're in bed!

Lots of other stuff, but yeah...she's here. I know it's a she. It's Dean's previous wife who died from Breast Cancer 18 months before Dean and I met. She died here...her ashes are still here....

For a long time, Angela would wake up in the middle of the night laughing hysterically, carrying on big long conversations. When I'd go into her room to tell her to go back to sleep, she'd say she was talking to "The Santa Lady".

Then there were the nights I was PUSHED out of bed, or heard someone SCREAM my name in my ear. I'd wake up, go check on Angela, only to find she was burning up with a high fever, or was having a seizure. I have no doubt that Fae woke me up. Did I mention she'd been a teacher?

Finally, about 3 years ago, I was moving some boxes and found a picture of Fae standing next to her motorcycle, wearing a red leather motorcycle suit. Angela came up behind me, and seeing the picture said "Hey! Santa lady!"

Don't need much more than that to convince me!

  9. Oh, and I forgot to mention...the TV in our room? We replaced it a couple months ago, and it STILL happening! There is nothing wrong with the wires or anything else. It just turns 1/2 on.

  13. Very creepy. Here's a thought...WHAT IF your ghost protected you? What if someone really was out there and she made sure to get your attention and wake you up in order to protect you, Kyle, and the kids??? Hmmmmm.....

  15. Well, before it got weird at the end I was relating to you =)...no history of strange things here.

But the other day I got home and the G door was opening, then shutting- up and down every two minutes or so. It was so weird! And the garage was empty, so I knew my husband wasn't home. When I realized that it was continually going up and down I got a little less scared and had the neighbor man the kids while I went in the house to make sure it was all clear.

Turns out our situation was due to the button in the garage (that I had pushed when I got in the car that morning) was slightly "stuck" on one corner. Easy fix, but it sure had me worried at first!

  17. Apparently, the house I lived in when I was really young was haunted. Faucets would turn on, he would rip the covers off my bed (I was 3), we would hear him running up and down stairs, etc. I was the only one who ever saw him. I called him Harry the Ghostess man. He dumped over our entire Barbie house in the middle of the night; he hid stuff from where we left it. All sorts of creepy things. We moved when I was in the second grade and that was the end of that! Creepy stuff! My mom said I was never scared, though.

  25. Creepy! I don't know if I would be able to sleep at night and surely would be afraid to open my eyes in the dark for fear there would be someone standing there. I love hearing the stories but if it were me I probably would have been running down the street screaming a long time ago.
